23 (a) i dɨ̀gət drèxite nə mumàtə utɨ̀vət vè̟če vəf mòmkuvite dvòri

and they pack up the girl’s clothes and go to the home of the boy’s parents.

24 (a) pusrè̟štə gi svekɤ̀rvətə pɤ̀rvu òšte sə nə kərùcətə

The mother-in-law greets them. First, while they are still in the carriage,

25 (a) svekɤ̀rvətə dàvə ednò sɨ̀tu pɤ̀lnu səs uvòškə də fɤ̀rl’ə bùlkata

the mother-in-law gives [the bride] a sieve full of dried fruit for the bride to toss

26 (a) də kàzvə də jə čestɨ̀tə gudɨ̀nətə də ìmə mnògu pluduròdie

[in the air] to say that the coming year will be blessed with much fertility.

27 (a) svekɤ̀rvətə puè̟mə bùlkətə snè̟və jə puè̟mə i

The mother-in-law receives the bride, helps her out of the carriage. She also receives

28 (a) mlədužèn’əkə snè̟və gi i sə nərèždət pret.kɤ̀šti

the bridegroom. She helps them out, and everyone lines up in front of the house –

29 (a) krɤ̀snikə svè̟kərə svikɤ̀rvətə krɤ̀snicətə dè̟ver

godfather, father-in-law, mother-in-law, godmother, brother-in-law,

30 (a) jetɤ̀rvə [cough] pɤ̀rvu mladužè̟nekə i kumɤ̀ kòjtu e

sister-in-law [cough]. First the bridegroom and godfather – whoever is godfather –

31 (a) kumɤ̀ nəlɨ̀və rəkìjə mlədužènekə dàvə

the godfather pours brandy and the bridegroom hands it around. [In this way]

32 (a) pusrè̟štət si ud venčàfkətə iskàrə tòj

they greet [those coming] from the church ceremony. The godfather is done, and

33 (a) pòsl’e mumàta kumɨ̀cətə nəlɨ̀və rəkìjətə mumàtə

now it’s [the turn of] the girl. The godmother pours out the brandy, and the girl –

34 (a) dàvə čàškətə bùlkətə demè̟k i jə nərè̟ždət tugàvə

the bride, that is, hands around the glass. And then they “instruct” her–

35 (a) svekɤ̀rvətə svè̟kərə nərèždət jə dàvə

the mother-in-law and father-in-law instruct her. [As the former] gives [her things]

36 (a) kàzvə às ti pudər’àvəm nuštuvɨ̀te ə ugrɨ̀pkətə pištɤ̀

she says, “I give you the kneading trough, the tool for scraping out the oven,

37 (a) kubɨ̀lcətə s kutlɨ̀te demèk də jə utmenɨ̀

the yoke with pails” – that is, [she is instructing her] to help her out.

38 (a) i pòsle se pòčvə svàdbətə ìdət səs mùzɨkətə

And then the wedding celebration begins. They go, accompanied by music,

39 (a) zə krɤ̀snikə duedɤ̀t krɤ̀snikə dòdi i bu

to get the godfather. They bring the godfather, and then come –

40 (a) nə bùlkətə bəštà i màjkə i [cough] i sə pòčuvə

the mother and father of the bride [cough] and they begin.

41 (a) a na òbet sl’èt rəkìjətə əku ìmə sestrɨ̀ bùlkətə snəxà

At noon, after the brandy, if the bride – [now] daughter-in-law – has sisters,

42 (a) utɨ̀vət səz bànɨcɨ səs ə u pò ugòdnu jàdene də rànəd bùlkətə̥

[the sisters] go with banitsa and other nice food to feed the bride.

43 (a) pòsle se pòčuvə trəp’èzətə dər’àvənetu səbɨ̀rə tàm pudàrəci kəkvòtu ìmə

Then the feasting begins, and gifting. They gather up the gifts that are there,

44 (a) i ispràtət màjkətə bəštàtə səs mùzikə ispràtət jə

and send off [the bride’s] mother and father with music. They send them off and then

45 (a) tə si ìdi ispràtət krɤ̀snikə i pòsle uvedɤ̀d bùlkətə

and then they go to send off the godfather. Then they lead the bride [to the room]

46 (a) dètu žə spɨ̀ i čùpət nə vrətàtə gərnè̟ li bɨlò

where she will “sleep”, and break [things] on the door, whether it’s a pot

47 (a) pənɨ̀cə li bɨlò čùpət nə vrətàtə tɤ̀j e bilò zəkònə [laughter]

or a bowl – they break things on the door. That was the law! [laughter]

48 (a) i tugàvə si prudəlžàvət xurò

And then they continue with the round dance.

49 (VZh) [Какво става на другия ден?]

[What happens on the next day?]

50 (a) ispràtət si sɨ̀čki svədbàri nə.ùtrə bùlkətə stàvə rànu

They send off all the wedding guests. In the morning the bride arises early.

51 (a) nəpràvi ednɤ̀ pɨ̀tə otɨ̀vət u bəštà i də zənesɤ̀t

she makes a “pita” (flatbread), and they go to her father to bring brandy.

52 (a) krɤ̀snikə krɤ̀snicətə svè̟kərə drùgi pò svòi

The godfather, godmother, father-in-law, others close to the family, all go

53 (a) u bəštà i gul’àjət tàm c’àl dè̟n pràvət rəkìjətə mu kàzvəme

to her father, and feast there all day. They make [sweet] brandy, as we call it.

54 (a) dukɤ̀t se vɤ̀rnət bùlkətə ušɤ̀tə nəgləsɨ̀

Before they return the bride cleans and arranges [her new home]

55 (a) də zəvàr’ət sɨ̀čku gutòvu

so that they will find everything ready [on their return].
