milk production measurement

Baskalci 1

65 (a) premèrime si nәpràime prèmas
we take measure, we do the reference milking.

66 (GK) kàk sa prài prèmәs
How is reference milking done?

67 (a) è әmi sèki izmɤ̀zvә nèguvite i i mèrime
Well, each one milks his sheep dry, and we measure

68 (a) kòj kòj kòlku mu pùštәt i nә kilòtu putfɤ̀rl’әme nәprìmer
how much each one gives, and ascribe it by kilos. For instance

69 (a) nә ednò kilò putfɤ̀rl’әme trìese kìlə dә mu se dàdәt
thirty kilos are ascribed [to an owner] for each kilo in the reference milking.

73 (a) i nә tebeka nә prèmɤzu kòlku ti e došlò
So then whatever came out to be your share at the reference milking

92 (GK) dobrè a tòo tàm dètu e nàj glàvnijә kәt sә prài prèmlәs
OK. Now back to when they note the yield. The head person [there],

99 (a) kәtu se putfɤ̀rli mlekòtu nәprìmer dnèskә bәčùvәm àzeka
about ascribing milk [at the reference milking]? Today I’d be sheep owner,

104 (a) i drùgite òn kәtu vòdi tàmoka nәprìmer kato mèrɤt tuvà mlekòto mèri se
and he’d lead the others there, when they are measuring the milk,

105 (a) òn go mèri zapìsva si tàm ama ne zapìsvaa sәs tәkòvә
he’d measure it and write it down. But they wouldn’t write with [pen and paper],

107 (a) si prài ednì čertìčki nèšto znàči
he’d make these slashes, you know?

108 (GK) e kàk se kažùva tà
And what’s that thing called?

111 (a) à tàm tàm što gò pìšaa
Oh, [you mean] where they “wrote” it down?

113 (a) à tuà gu tovà se kažùvaše ràbuški ràbuš ràbuz znàči i [match strikes]
Ah that! That was called a tally.

135 (a) tɤ̀rla ìma pàg zә dә ne izlègәt kato se izmɤ̀zat premèrɤt mlekòto
the pen is there so they don’t get out during the milking. The milk is measured,

Hvojna 1

1 (a) kòjtu ìmə wòfce hòdeš’è nə màndrə nəlì utìdət nə màndrə nàj nəpr’èt
Whoever has sheep would go to the dairy farm. When they go [there] they first

2 (a) nə zdòj də si rəspredel’ɤ̀t ut kòlku òfce kəkvò mòže də pulùči
deal with the milking, so as to figure out who gets how much milk from how many sheep.

3 (a) i kət sə ə upredel’ìlo vìkəhə gu v’edrà kòlku v’edrà
and when they’ve determined what they called the “pail” [amount], how many “pails”

4 (a) mòže də z’ème nəprìm’er n’àkuj ìmə p’ʌ̟̀t n’àkuj d’ès’ət
each can get – for instance some have five, and some have ten

5 (a) i kət ìde si zɤ̀me d’èsettu v’edrà də kàžeme
and when you go to get [your] ten pails, let’s say,

Srebŭrna 2

25 (c) vəš ču̥šmɤ̀tə i gi redì s’ètne pud r’èt tàm də e
by the well. And then he lines them up so they are arranged [according to]

26 (c) kòjtu kugàtu̥ mu e ridɤ̀ i kòlkut ufcè ìmə
whose turn it is, when each one’s turn comes, how many sheep each one has,

27 (c) i im dàvə ml’àku̥tu pu ufcɤ̀ dim’èk də kàem
and [then] he gives each person the milk per [from his] sheep. So, I mean,

28 (c) aku ìmə dv’è ufc’è čèti̥ri pu dv’è kilà li kòlku sɤ
if someone has two sheep, then it’s four. Two kilos per [sheep], that’s how much it is,

29 (c) č’ètiri kilà šə mu dəd’è minàvət si sìčki̥t’ȅ ridò pàk puftàr’ə̟t
so he’ll give him four kilos. All of them go by turns, and then they do it again.
