Well, they went all around that summit and there isn’t anything anywhere.

No. Didn’t I tell you there aren’t any?

18 (b) e às vìkəm [inaudible] da ne trɤ̀gvame əmə
Well, I said we shouldn’t set out, but –

19 (a) predì gu lənì ə mìnələsə gudìnə i pò nəprèšnətə gudìnə
Earlier – last year – This past year and the year before it

20 (a) stànə təkà gɤ̀bɨ
there were mushrooms.

22 (a) gɤ̀bɨ stànə kədètu vərv’ɔ̀ iznòs nɛ̀kəde
There were mushrooms, [of a kind] that [they] export somewhere.

25 (a) tugàvə hòd’ehə tə hi berɛ̀hə gɔ̀bɤte i hi suš’ɛ̀hə
They would go out then and gather them, the mushrooms, and dry them,

26 (a) a tùa sèj nərɛ̀duvàə nərɛ̀duvàə tè behə mnògu skɔ̀pi lənì
and they’d line them all up, all up. They were very expensive last year

What kind of mushrooms?

29 (b) manatàrki
“Manatarki” (porcini mushrooms).

30 (a) imɛ̀ imɛ̀ i gulɛ̀mki imɛ̀ i pò màšečki
There were – there were big ones and there were smaller ones.

31 (b) manatàrki se kàzvat
They’re called “manatarki”.

34 (b) tàa godìna nèma štòt fàna sùšata i gu udvèlu
There aren’t any this year because the drought came and [the wind] took them off.

35 (a) tà zgà hòd’əm pòvenke də putrɔ̀sə nəgòre
And now I’m going up there to look some more

37 (a) də vìdə əmə nèmə òd be sùš’e
to see [if there are some] but there aren’t any because of the drought!

38 (a) àku be l’etɛ̀lu nemɛ̀ privdìgəne əmə tò ne može i də letì
If it had rained [there’d have been so many] one couldn’t have carried them, but it couldn’t even rain.

39 (a) kugàtu ìmə dɔ̀š letè pək təkò̝və stànuvət
When there’s rain, then they come out [fine].

40 (a) əmə zgà nə sùš’ətə nə stànəhə sin
But now in the drought they didn’t make it, son.

42 (a) nè nìštu i tugàvə hi sušɛ̀ha ta bilè i gò̝tvihə ut tɛ̀h
No, nothing! Back then people dried them and even cooked with them,

43 (a) mèsət sy m’ɔ̀su i zətvàr’əhə fəv burkàne hi zətvàr’əhə
mixed [them] with meat, and put them into jars.

44 (a) gà isɔ̀hnehə hi zətvàr’əhə vəv burkàne i pučtì iznòs
When they were dry, they put them into jars. Most for export.

29 (a) gà letì dɔ̀š ta stànvat hùbavɤ gɔ̀bɤ ta berèm ama sàa gudᶤìna
When it rains, nice mushrooms come out, and we gather [them]. But this year

30 (a) a sùš’ɛ nìštu ne nakùsihme nìkakva gɔ̀ba nemɛ̀še sàa gudᶤìna
there’s a drought and we haven’t tasted anything. No mushrooms at all this year.
